Out and About || Rachel + Quinn

qforquinn:

The contact was so simple, insignificant. Second nature-linking arms casually, it’s what friends do. It’d honestly be impossible to count the times she done such a nonchalant thing with Santana, Brittany, or even Mercedes. Yet when Rachel reached out to hook their arms together, it was…different? It had sort of become a regular occurrence, the last few times serving as proof, but unlike everyone else,  the blonde couldn’t help but squeeze a little tighter. Rachel was just…easy to be comfortable with, to relax around- odd enough, considering that was hardly the case in the past. The timidness to Rachel steps brought a sneaky grin to her lips. Quinn made it a point not to reveal her scheme, partially for the effect of it all, and maybe also partly due to self-consciousness.

”I do love it, even if the stress makes it easy to complain,” She bumped her shoulder back, raising her eyebrows. “As for what gave it away, it would probably be the excitement practically radiating off your face.” Her grin gave way to shock, before lighting up into a smile. What could she say, the excitement was contagious. “Slow down there- are you serious?” Quinn suppressed the urge to repeat the hug, only this time managing to stop herself from feeling (and probably looking,) like a fool. ”It about time, don’t you think, when will you know for sure?” By the tone of her voice, you’d think she was the one auditioning.

Steering them down the busy side-walk, the girl let out a sigh, sending a side-long glance at the chipper brunette. “You sure are persistent. It’s a bookshop, used bookshop.” Her eyes shifted down to the concrete. “A little on the lame side, I know.”

It felt nice and refreshing to have Quinn showing a little bit of interest in her and her life. It wasn’t exactly an entire new feeling, but one could hear that she was being honest in her voice, and for some reason it made Rachel…kind of happy — to which she only responded leaning a little bit closer to her, almost a reflex. “Two days I believe so,” she replied, a smile still on her face. “Two days that I won’t be able to sleep at night, most likely.” Although it was meant to sound like a joke, it was probably going to happen, seeing as she’s been having trouble sleeping for a while now.

The fact that Quinn gave in felt like a little victory, and Rachel couldn’t help but grin and bump her shoulder against Quinn’s lightly. “Hey, there’s nothing lame about books, or bookshops.” She reassured her. Why? She didn’t know. “In fact, it’s been quite a while since I haven’t been to one. Besides, who doesn’t love the smell of books?” she asked, not really waiting for an answer but sending a glance Quinn’s way anyway. “Now who’s the lame one, huh?” Rachel asked, shaking her head at herself because really, who gets excited about going to a bookshop? Okay, maybe the fact that she was going anywhere with Quinn helped a little bit.

They stayed quiet for a while, well, most like Rachel was able to keep her mouth shut for the next five minutes, but it was nice. Walking around the city, watching the people rushing to go places, hearing the sounds —that on a busy day they would be extremely annoying— there was just…something. Rachel liked to call it New York’s own magic, as silly as it sounded. But not being exactly sure how far away from said store they were, Rachel decided that a small talk wouldn’t hurt. “How was your movie night with Brittany and Santana? It’s been a while since I don’t talk to them, not that I would call us exactly friends, but you know…,” she said with a little shrug of her shoulder. “They’re still together, right? I think they make a lovely couple.”

Out and About || Rachel + Quinn

qforquinn:

Quinn’s attention had quickly become amerced in the variety of activity around around her, silently wishing she had slowed down enough to think to snatch her camera. The winter chills were finally beginning to dwindle, and the breeze was just convincing enough for her to shrug the black cardigan from her shoulders- all tell-tale signs of good day. Focus came crashing back the moment her eyes caught hold of Rachel.

It felt akin to relief, actually being able to physically see Rachel, rather then shooting  an occasional text, or interacting via the computer. Which was baffling- they practically spent their entire first semesters of college apart and virtually ignorant to each other’s whereabouts until, all out of nowhere, they finally managed to meet-up, and somehow strengthen that semblance of friendship they started back in senior year. Now, just going merely a month without any real interaction, the blonde was missing her more then she thought plausible- not that she’d ever say it out loud.

At arms length apart, Quinn let her eyes drift from head to toe, committing the brunette’s appearance to memory, like she’d never see her again. In simpler terms,  checking her out. Except not really, because why would she check Rachel Berry out? “I was considering it.” She pinned her gaze to Rachel’s, shrugging her shoulders teasingly. “But then I wouldn’t have anybody to help me waste my day.” Before her mind could fully process what her body was doing, Quinn tugged the smaller girl into a light hug, pulling back quickly.

“Longer then it seems. We’re overdue for a day like today, aren’t we?” Long overdue.  ”As for how I am, I’ve got nothing to brag about for once, its’ been all work, no play. Stressed; but…happy. But I get the feeling you’ve had a lot more going on then me. How have you been?”

The hug caught her by surprise. Even though it was just that, a simple hug that didn’t last more than two seconds, it was very much welcomed. And perhaps yes, the fact that she didn’t have a roommate and not a lot of great friends sometimes left her craving human contact —and god, that even sounded bad in her head— so maybe that was why she enjoyed that quick hug so much, and most definitely not because of something else.

Flashing a smile Quinn’s way, Rachel started walking slowly. Destination? Unknown, because Quinn failed to tell her where they were going or what they were doing, but it didn’t really matter in that moment, she was just content being in the blonde’s company. “But hey, you’re doing something you love, right? I don’t see why you’d be complaining.” she commented, raising an eyebrow and bumping her shoulder against Quinn’s lightly. “I’m glad you’re happy, though. And yes, I do! What gave it away?” Rachel asked with a smile on her face, linking their arms together, just like the last time. “I had an extremely good day today, and it’s only the afternoon!” she bit her lip, trying not to sound too excited — although the fact that she had two coffees earlier was probably not helping. “I was talking to one of my teachers today and I think it’s safe to say I have an audition in two days! Apparently they’re re-casting the Off-Broadway version of Rent but it’s not open auditions, so my teacher is doing everything in her power to get them to let me audition!” she said all in one breath.

“But besides that, life’s pretty normal, you know.” Rachel commented, trying to sound nonchalant. “Where are we going, Quinn? I already told you mysterious doesn’t look good on you.”

Out and About || Rachel + Quinn

qforquinn:

The lecture class was ironically silent, a common anticipation hanging in the air, as what seemed like every student in the stuffy room watched the clock intently. Seat stiffly in the row closest to the exit, Quinn drummed the tip of her pen rhythmically against her notebook, body angled and ready for a quick escape.

College had quickly become overwhelming and all consuming- If the girl wasn’t sitting through a class, she was stressing out at work, any other free time after that was devoted to sleeping. It was taking  longer then expected to get the pace of things, but finally, an opportunity to relax, to be social came along and she had made plans with Rachel Berry, of all people. Not that she was complaining. It had been a bit too long since they last got to get together.

A smile graced her lips the moment the aged professor released the class and in a flash, Quinn was already hastily striding out the door and down the hallway. Columbia was roughly a 10 minute commute by subway to the NYU campus, and by extension, Washington square. After a particularly long and aggravating ride, and quick pit stop (which literally consisted of her opening the apartment door just wide enough to toss her messenger bag inside,) Quinn made her way to the NYU landmark, eyes shyly roaming the crowds of students for a sign of the short diva.

To say the least, Rachel was intrigued. It had been a while since she last talked or hung out with Quinn —one month and six days, not that she was counting or anything— so of course at the first opportunity she had, she couldn’t exactly say no to that. For some ungodly reason, Rachel missed the blonde more than she was letting on. Of course she liked to joke around and sort of lied when she said she only “kind of” missed her, but that was something Quinn didn’t exactly need to know — what she doesn’t know doesn’t hurt her, right?

So yes, she was intrigued, and since she didn’t know exactly what would they be doing, or where was Quinn taking her, she took more time than needed with her outfit that morning. It was a little chilly outside, but with the spring so close, it would always get warmer later in the afternoon, and they were meeting for lunch but…it wasn’t a skirt weather, right? Maybe some jeans would do…yes, that had to do it. Jeans, a Next To Normal shirt she got a few days ago, and a light jacket. There, perfect.

Time really went fast that morning for one Rachel Berry. Not only she had two classes that she really enjoyed, but she also got a script that she needed to learn in less than two days for a possible audition one of her teachers got for her. By the time she got to Washington square, not only she had a smile on her face because that day was going great, but she also was definitely too distracted, that she mistook Quinn for two some other girls — which was ridiculous because the only thing they had in common was the blonde hair, Quinn was definitely prettier. But once she was sure it was Quinn the girl in front of her, she raised her hand slowly and waved at her, trying to get her attention as she made her way to her. “Hello there, stranger. For a moment I thought you stood me up or something.” Of course, Rachel and her dramatic ways; she hadn’t even been there for five minutes! “How are you, Quinn? It’s been a while.”

Never would’ve pegged Rachel Berry for a Taylor Swift fan.

qforquinn:

Well that’s the effect I was going for. It should be something you”ll like, I hope at least.

Mysterious doesn’t look good on you, Quinn :P

I’ll see you later.

qforquinn:

Sounds like a plan. And I think I know just the thing to do…

Lets give tomorrow a go, meet at Washington Square by the arch.

Sounds perfect, though I must admit I’m intrigued. What are we going to do?

qforquinn:

Classes start up again tomorrow…but I have plenty of time to kill after 1. Tomorrow, Wednesday, and Friday. And I can’t really think a better way to spend it.

I have a little free time both tomorrow or Wednesday after lunch so, whatever you want to do. Just tell me where and when, and I’ll be there.

qforquinn:

An exception? I’m glad you’ll manage to pencil me in. Let me know.

How about you tell me whenever you’re free, and I’ll manage to clear up my schedule for you?

qforquinn:

And here I was trying to forget he exist.

It’s not something I thought I’d find myself saying, but- I don’t ‘maybe’ miss you. It really feels weird, saying it aloud; I do miss Rachel Berry’s demanding presence, enough where if she’s not too busy, I’d actually want to drag her out for coffee and catch-up.

Well, I am a little bit busy…but I suppose I could make an exception and make some room just for you.

qforquinn:

You did not just compare me to the likes of him…“it.” Whatever he is.

Only kind of, huh? Second semester’s eaten away at my life, but if you really insist, I’d be okay with seeing you, catching up. Believe it or not, I’ve actually kind of, possibly, maybe, miss you too…

Okay, I am sorry, it really wasn’t my intention, but you just made it too easy!

That’s a lot of maybes…But yes, not only kind of. I actually do miss you, it’s just…it sounds weird saying it out loud. Not literally out loud, of course, because I am most definitely not saying ‘I miss you’ to my screen. But yes, I, Rachel Berry, miss you, Quinn Fabray.
